Elderly Moroccan Man Found Chained in Home After 20-Year Family Captivity

An elderly man, identified as H.A., was discovered chained in a family home in the village of Taghzout, in the Ouarzazate region.
Well-informed sources revealed that the man had been held by his family for two decades. Alerted, the gendarmes of the regional directorate of Ouarzazate, acting under the instructions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, freed the individual.
Suffering from mental disorders, hearing and speech problems, H.A. also showed signs of fatigue related to his advanced age. On the orders of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, he was taken to the psychiatric department of the Sidi Hssain Bennacer Regional Hospital Center in Ouarzazate.
The King’s Prosecutor and the gendarmes went to the hospital to inquire about the victim’s condition. An investigation has also been opened to shed light on this case and determine the responsibilities.
