Elderly Man Faces Life Sentence for Murdering Wife Over Morocco Trip Dispute

A 77-year-old man is on trial before the Assize Court in Nice for having slit the throat of his partner who wanted to go alone to Morocco, her native country. He faces life imprisonment.

The events took place late in the morning on July 28, 2018 in an apartment on Rue Solférino in Vallauris. Allaoua, 77, of Algerian origin, killed his Moroccan partner Najat, the mother of his five children, after more than forty years of living together. Tired of her husband’s outbursts of anger, the victim wanted to return to Morocco alone, which did not please her husband. According to the conclusions of the forensic experts, Najat died with her throat slit, reports Nice-matin. Four deep wounds to the neck were found.

At the stand, the alleged murderer recounts the facts. "She started to scream, to open the balcony. I’m known in Vallauris," says the merchant. Fearing what people might say, he says he grabbed her, not by the hair but by the collar. "In one blow, the knife went in there!" He points to his throat with his index finger, head back. "She pulled the knife out of her throat. We both fell," he continues.

"It’s weird, it doesn’t match your first statements," observes President Emmanuelle De Rosa. When the investigators went to the couple’s apartment, they found Najat’s lifeless body, arms outstretched, lying in a pool of blood. It was "an accident," assures the old accused.

The couple’s children know the dark side of their father. "Since I was little, I’ve heard my father say he’s going to kill my mother," Mourad, one of the sons, told investigators. "He gave us forty years of happiness. We never lacked anything," corrects Nordine, the youngest. "He goes in all directions. He’s in denial. It’s been three and a half years since we’ve seen him. It’s very hard... We love him as much as we hate him, but he’s still our father," summarizes the eldest of the siblings.
