Moroccan-French Man Jailed for Domestic Abuse Against Wife and Cousin

The Vannes court on Wednesday sentenced a man to nine months in prison with a suspended sentence for physical and moral violence against his wife, who happens to be his cousin, also of Moroccan origin.
The man contacted the police station on October 23 last to ask to have his wife "removed from [his] home and extradited, by taking her back to Morocco, because she is crazy. Otherwise I’ll kill her." Once on the spot, in the Ménimur district, the agents discovered a young wife who was quite battered, with head wounds, broken glass on the floor and a husband who insisted that his wife be expelled, reports Le Télégramme.
After calming the man down, the agents tried to understand what had happened. The woman then confessed that she is constantly a victim of physical violence from her husband, which even forced her to take 10 days off work, after a medical examination and treatment at the hospital. The investigation opened by the police made it possible to know the history of the husband, a 38-year-old man from Vannes, divorced and father of three children, who had remarried in Morocco with the victim who happens to be his young Moroccan cousin.

The young couple returned to France on July 22, 2021, but the woman did not endure for long what she considers an "arranged marriage", the man having taken away her passport and even locking her in her room to prevent her from going out alone in the city. The husband tried to deny the facts before the agents, before finally admitting that he had only slapped the woman and that he was trying to prevent her from returning to Morocco.
The young woman did not file a complaint and the couple no longer live together. Neither the man nor the woman appeared in court on Wednesday. But the prosecution, considering that "the defendant minimizes his responsibility" and that "the woman’s statements are consistent with the medical findings", requested a sentence of six months in prison against the violent husband. The judge finally decided to sentence the latter to a sentence of nine months in prison with a suspended sentence.
