Eid Al-Adha: Local Committees Oversee Animal Markets for Health and Safety

As part of the preparations for the Eid Al Adha festival, the authorities inform breeders and consumers that the necessary measures are being taken at the local level to ensure adequate health conditions for the sale of animals.
In an interview with the MAP, the director of the food production control department at the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA), Abdelghani Azzi, noted that in addition to the usual health monitoring measures for animals and hygiene conditions, additional preventive measures have been guaranteed throughout the chain from the sale of animals to the day of sacrifice.
To this end, he informed that the supervision of the markets dedicated to the sale of livestock is ensured by local committees that ensure compliance with the prevailing health conditions in order to limit the spread of the pandemic among breeders and citizens.
These same local committees also ensure the health of the livestock by taking samples of the food and drinking water consumed, continued Mr. Azzi, calling, at the same time, on all professionals, breeders and consumers to show discipline in order to reduce the risk of transmission of Covid.
In addition, he recalled the actions taken by the office since the beginning of the current year, in collaboration with several stakeholders, which have made it possible to ensure the health status of the livestock, in particular the operation of registering the fattening units of sheep and goats intended for slaughter on the occasion of Eid Al Adha and the identification of sheep and goats carried out by the Interprofessional Federation of Red Meats and the National Sheep and Goat Association.
He also stressed the importance for consumers to preserve the identification tag of the animal after its slaughter, because in case of doubt about the quality of the meat, they can contact the on-call services, which will verify their complaints and take the necessary measures.
And to conclude that for any information or complaints, a hotline is available during the Eid Al Adha period by veterinary doctors and technicians, the list of which is available on the ONSSA website. Citizens can also contact the Office via its Call Center (0 801 003 637) or its pages on social networks.
