Egyptian Ice Cream Chain Shut Down in Casablanca After Brief, Chaotic Success

In Casablanca, an Egyptian brand was forced to end its activities less than a week after opening.
Following a decision by the local authorities to suspend its operation for sanitary and administrative irregularities, the Egyptian franchise B. Laban specializing in milk-based ice creams and desserts, located in the upscale Maârif district of Casablanca, had to "temporarily" close its doors. This closure comes after only six days of activity. The store had met with enormous success "attracting impressive crowds, which caused disorder in the neighboring businesses," reported the website consonews.ma.
The reasons for this closure are the failure to comply with the requirements of the operating permit. The brand is accused of not respecting the initial purpose of the premises, which were supposed to be used only for the sale of ice creams and desserts, without on-site production. Worse, it was found that ingredients of unknown origin were used, "making traceability impossible and raising doubts about the quality of the products offered." As a result, 100 kg of milk and dairy products were seized and destroyed.
Other causes of this closure: the absence of several mandatory documents, including the medical records of employees and the certificates of compliance related to electricity, hygiene and fire safety, and the lack of hot water and fire-fighting devices.
