EDF Consortium Poised to Win $2 Billion Moroccan Solar Project

A very large contract is in sight for the French company EDF, which is about to win a large market in solar energy in Morocco.
Cited by Bloomberg, a Moroccan official and someone close to the case say that the consortium formed by EDF Energies Nouvelles will win the tender for the construction of a 825 megawatt solar energy project in the center of the country.
The amount of this project would exceed two billion euros, or nearly 20 billion dirhams, and would be in collaboration with the Emirati company Masdar as well as the Moroccan Green of Africa, an alliance formed by FinanceCom, Sofinam and Akwa Group.
By 2020, Morocco should reach its target of 42% renewable energy in the energy mix, according to the president of the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (Masen), Mustapha Bakkoury. Currently, Morocco has a capacity of 2,760 MW already in operation, of which 1,700 MW are from hydropower, 887 MW from wind power and 180 MW produced from solar energy.
