Two Dutch Suspects Arrested in Antwerp Girl’s Murder Case

Two Dutch nationals, a 31-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were arrested on Wednesday in the Netherlands for their alleged involvement in the murder of Firdaous, the 11-year-old girl killed by a bullet in Antwerp in January 2023. The woman was released on Friday while the man remains in custody.
Originally from Breda, the young woman, G. Z., was released on Friday, the Belgian justice system informs, stressing that the defendant remains a suspect in Firdaous’ murder and could be extradited to Belgium. The Dutch woman’s lawyer does not share this view, citing "very thin evidence" against his client. The young woman and her ex-partner, Nahésson C., from Amsterdam, deny any involvement in the murder of the 11-year-old girl. The latter, however, remains in custody.
The two Dutch nationals have been the subject of an investigation by the Belgian judicial police in collaboration with their Dutch counterparts since last year. According to Het Parool, the two suspects were apprehended after searches were carried out on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning in residences in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Breda.
In February, a 53-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man had been arrested in connection with this case. The man was released on Tuesday, but the woman remains in custody. Her DNA was identified on one of the cartridges found near Firdaous’ home.
The victim was at the table with her father and two sisters in the garage of their home in Merksem in Antwerp when she was sprayed with bullets. One of them hit the teenager, who died on the spot. The other family members were slightly injured. Firdaous’ family, and mainly her uncle, Othman El B., is well known in the Antwerp drug scene.
