Dutch Shipping Giant Wec Lines to Liquidate Moroccan Subsidiary Amid Global Restructuring

The Dutch shipping company Wec Lines will liquidate its Moroccan subsidiary. To this end, it has convened an extraordinary general meeting for January 2020.
According to Challenge, the liquidation follows the group’s desire to rationalize the architecture of its global operations and favor the network of exclusive agents with an equity partnership.
WEC Lines also holds a 33% stake in EXMARIS, its exclusive agent in the Moroccan market for 11 years. The rest of the capital of this structure is jointly controlled by Transports Marocains and Union Maritime et Minière, two entities belonging to the Transmar group, one of the pioneers in Morocco in the freight forwarding and maritime consignment business, it is reported.
According to the same source, EXMARIS will now be the only participation in Morocco of the Rotterdam-based group. It is also specified that it will be the only operational arm on the Moroccan market in charge of all transit, commission, brokerage and ship consignment operations operated by WEC Lines. To this end, WEC Lines’ staff will be entirely taken over by EXMARIS.
