Drug Traffickers Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Spanish Military Officer in Ceuta

The military Driss Amar Mohamed, 39, was coldly shot dead on Monday in the El Principe neighborhood of Ceuta. Three hooded men, drug traffickers, shot him while he was in his brother’s car, parked in a garage, before fleeing.

Police officers who were patrolling the area at that precise moment heard the gunshots and pursued the three young men under 30 years old. After a chase, they managed to arrest them as the alleged perpetrators of this murder. The suspects all had criminal records. For now, the investigators think that the victim was mistaken for his brother, arrested several times for drug trafficking.

A pistol and ammunition, electronic surveillance equipment and drones were found at the suspects’ home during a search. They used the drones to transport hashish or drugs over the border fence. Currently, these devices can carry up to 10 kilos of drugs or narcotics. The transfer is done in both directions: they leave Ceuta for Morocco loaded with Ritrovil, a drug used for the manufacture of Karkoubi, and they return with hashish.

The National Police dismantled a drug trafficking network with homemade underwater drones capable of crossing the strait with a maximum load of 200 kilos of drugs in July. These underwater drones, intended for French drug traffickers for the transport of cocaine, were seized and eight people were arrested. The network provided logistical services to criminal organizations based in Ceuta, Campo de Gibraltar, Catalonia, the Costa del Sol, Italy, France or Denmark.

Monday’s operation also led to the arrest of three other men, accused of having attacked seven police officers with stones last Friday during an anti-drug operation. The Ceuta police have been carrying out these types of operations for months to avoid clashes between drug trafficking networks seeking to take control of the region. In total, 36 people have already been arrested during these operations.
