Drug Baron’s Wife Acquitted in Moroccan Attempted Murder Case

The Tangier Court of Appeal acquitted on Thursday the wife of drug baron Sofiane Hambli, accused of conspiracy and attempted murder on her husband in the Achakar region.
Hambli had accused his wife of trying to kill him with the complicity of her lover and another person, after he was the victim of a violent attack in a station located in the Achakar region of Tangier. An attack in which he lost his fingers and which led to his arrest after being admitted to a clinic under a false identity.
The drug baron eventually withdrew his complaint against his wife to avoid her incarceration and their 9-year-old child being left without a mother for a long period. With the withdrawal of Hambli’s complaint, the Court had no choice but to pronounce the acquittal in favor of the accused who had always denied the facts.
As for the two other defendants, they were sentenced to 10 years in prison for premeditated attempted murder and assault on Hambli. Moreover, the drug baron, wanted by France, was sentenced to more than 24 years in prison. A sentence he is serving in the Zaki prison.
