Drought Relief: 200,000 Moroccans to Gain Water Access in $86 Million Project

Water is becoming almost a luxury in some regions of the North due to the scarcity of rainfall. The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water, in partnership with the Council of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima Region, has launched a water supply project for several villages in Tanger, Tétouan, Larache and Chefchaouen over a five-year period.
This project is part of the Program for the Reduction of Territorial and Social Disparities (PRDTS) and will benefit 200,000 inhabitants. It is estimated at 861 million dirhams (excluding land).
The work will include several structures, which will be implemented through the realization of civil engineering works, the supply and laying of pipes, the supply and installation of equipment and their electrification, reports l’Économiste.
The ONEE has also just launched the last phase of the PERG rural electrification program. 14 villages will benefit from this program financed at 80 million dirhams, provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the same source specifies.
