Drought Forces Water Rationing in Moroccan Cities as Heat Wave Intensifies

As of August 1st, a reduction in the flow of drinking water will take place every day in the province of Berrechid. This drop will occur every day from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next day. A measure taken to ensure the supply of drinking water to the inhabitants.
The Regional Directorate of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) of Khouribga, announced in a press release its forced recourse to the reduction of the flow of drinking water starting from Monday, August 1st, to mitigate the effects of water stress experienced by several regions of the kingdom.
"Due to the heat wave that our country is experiencing during the summer period, the demand for drinking water is experiencing a significant increase given the current situation, which is characterized by a sharp drop in water resources due to the lack of precipitation and the succession of drought years in Morocco in recent years," it explained.
And to add that this situation has led to a drop in the level of dams and groundwater levels, which requires a collective mobilization in order to rationalize the use of drinking water.
