Drought and Feed Costs Force Moroccan Farmers to Sell Livestock at Low Prices

Overwhelmed by the situation of high cost of livestock feed and delayed rains, the professionals in the red meat sector have called on the state to quickly put in place an emergency plan for the benefit of breeders. As a way out of the crisis, they propose to exceptionally increase the import quotas of livestock feed, while temporarily exempting them from customs duties.
In a statement to Al Massae, Ahmed Boukourouzia, president of the Coordination of Meat, Milk and Agricultural Products Producers for the Casablanca-Settat region, demanded that the authorities, particularly those of the Agriculture Department, declare a "state of drought" and provide the necessary assistance to breeders and professionals to enable them to better cope with the current difficulties.
