Driver Speeds Across Morocco-Ceuta Border, Abandons Car After Crash and Flees
A driver coming from Morocco raced through the Tarajal checkpoints, nearly running over several Civil Guard officers. After crashing in Ceuta, he abandoned his car and continued his escape on foot.
The incident took place on Monday, September 28, at around 6:30 a.m. A Renault 19 with Moroccan license plates sped through the various checkpoints for entering Ceuta without officers being able to stop it, reports Ceuta TV.

As the driver forced his way through, he nearly hit several Civil Guard officers in the border area. No officers were ultimately injured.
The car then travelled more than a kilometre into Ceuta before crashing on Reyes Católicos Avenue. The driver abandoned it at the scene and disappeared on foot.
When officers found the Renault, its bodywork was badly damaged and its tires were burst.
A search of the car provides no answers
The Civil Guard suspected the vehicle might be carrying drugs or concealing people who had entered illegally. It was therefore taken away and thoroughly searched by officers responsible for customs and border controls.
No drugs or hidden people were found, Europa Press confirms. However, goods were found in the car and are still being checked.
Investigators are also trying to determine whether other people were on board when the Renault left Morocco. They are working to retrace its route between Tarajal and Reyes Católicos Avenue and establish what may have been dropped along the way.

In the early evening, the driver remained at large. The Civil Guard continued examining the vehicle, its registration and its cargo in an effort to identify him and understand what prompted him to force his way through the border.
