The Adamuz tragedy: the ordeal of Yamina’s family to repatriate her body to Morocco

The search for Yamina has been a real ordeal for her loved ones. Her sister Nawal recounts having witnessed the tragedy live during a video call: after the shock, she could only hear screams through the screen that remained lit. This was followed by four days of anguish, wandering between the hospitals and police stations in the region, marked by a communication error by the Red Cross, which first announced her death before retracting it, and finally confirming the news last Wednesday. For Aya, her niece, this prolonged uncertainty has been an additional suffering that is difficult to accept, reports El Pais.

Beyond the grief, the Lamssiah family is now facing a maze of paperwork between insurers, funeral homes, and Spanish health authorities. While the Muslim rite requires the deceased to be buried as soon as possible, Yamina is still waiting to be able to return to her homeland. The Moroccan consulate has given its approval, but additional health certificates are still missing. This outrageous situation has angered her sisters, Malika and Nawal, who believe that the promises of support from the Spanish authorities have remained without concrete effect.

The railway company Iryo has covered part of the costs by paying 8,400 euros, thus exceeding the coverage of the mandatory passenger insurance. However, despite this financial support, Yamina’s body has remained blocked in a cold room much longer than human dignity requires. This Saturday, a first prayer could be organized at the Islamic Cultural Center of Cordoba, offering a brief moment of contemplation to a family who now aspires to only one thing: to bring Yamina home to offer her a final farewell on her land.
