Dramatic Mid-Sea Rescue: Moroccan Expat Airlifted After Heart Attack on Barcelona-Bound Ferry

Taken ill with a heart attack on a GNV ship, coming from Barcelona and bound for the port of Beni Ansar, a Moroccan residing abroad (MRE) was evacuated by a medical helicopter on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
A difficult return to Morocco for a Moroccan residing abroad (MRE). While he was on a GNV ship, coming from Barcelona and bound for the port of Beni Ansar, he suffered a heart attack during the crossing at sea. The ship’s crew mobilized and issued a distress call to the Moroccan authorities. A joint coordination between the Royal Navy and the services of the Ministry of Health quickly dispatched a specialized Moroccan medical helicopter from one of the nearby air bases.
The aircraft managed to carry out a meticulous landing operation on the ship’s deck at sea, to the applause and amazement of the passengers. The medical team accompanying the helicopter provided first aid to the sick migrant. The patient was then transferred aboard the aircraft to one of the hospitals in Nador, where he was welcomed by a medical team. He is continuing the necessary examinations and treatments there.
This rapid intervention helped save the life of the MRE at the right time and avoid complications that could have been fatal.
