Dortmund’s Hakimi Risks Punishment for George Floyd Tribute During Match

The Moroccan international, Achraf Hakimi, was carried away by the emotion provoked by the death of the 46-year-old African American, George Floyd, who died of suffocation during a violent arrest by white police officers on Monday in Minneapolis. A strong and symbolic gesture, but one that could cost the Atlas Lion dearly.
The news in recent days has been marked by riots and other demonstrations in support of George Floyd, a victim of police violence in the United States. This is how, during the victory of his club, Borussia Dortmund, against Paderborn (6-1), on Sunday, May 31, Achraf Hakimi had the gesture he should not have had, according to some.
After scoring the 4th goal of his team on a decisive pass from Marcel Schmelzer, the Moroccan international took off his jersey and revealed the inscription "Justice for George Floyd". He will be followed in his momentum by his teammate Jadon Sancho.
Even if the press, particularly the Spanish press, has hailed Achraf Hakimi’s gesture and made it its main topic, it is nevertheless announced that he could well be sanctioned by the directors of the German championship. Already the German Football Association should "examine the tributes to George Floyd and other acts carried out by a number of players this weekend".
This information was confirmed by the chairman of the control committee, Anton Nachreiner, who announced on Monday the opening of an investigation. "The DFB control body will look into this issue in the coming days and examine the circumstances of the case," he said.
