The dirham falls again: 1,000 euros now bring in 75 more dirhams

According to the latest weekly indicators from Bank Al-Maghrib, the dirham depreciated by 0.7% against the euro between September 3 and 9, 2026. It also fell by 0.2% against the US dollar.

The euro’s reference exchange rate rose from 10.815 dirhams on September 2 to 10.890 dirhams on September 9. For reference, 1,000 euros therefore amount to 10,890 dirhams, compared with 10,815 dirhams a week earlier, representing an additional 75 dirhams. For 5,000 euros, the difference amounts to approximately 375 dirhams. However, the amount actually received depends on the exchange rate and fees charged by the bank or exchange office.

The European currency had already gained ground against the dirham the previous week, when 1,000 euros brought in 39 more dirhams. The movement is therefore continuing and has even intensified.

The euro exceeded 10.91 dirhams

During the week, the euro even reached 10.910 dirhams on September 8, its highest level of the period, before falling slightly to 10.890 dirhams the following day. Against the dollar, the reference exchange rate rose from 9.340 dirhams on September 2 to 9.359 dirhams on September 9.

Bank Al-Maghrib also reported that Morocco’s official reserve assets reached 502.1 billion dirhams as of September 4. They increased by 0.4% in one week and, above all, by 21.1% year on year. At the end of August, these reserves represented the equivalent of five months and 26 days of imports of goods and services.
