After Holding Steady, the Dirham Falls Against the Euro

The euro is rising again against the Moroccan dirham. This is favorable for Moroccans living abroad who exchange or transfer euros to Morocco, following the opposite movement observed the previous week.

According to the latest weekly indicators from Bank Al-Maghrib, the dirham depreciated by 0.5 % against the euro between August 13 and 19, 2026. It nevertheless appreciated by 0.3 % against the US dollar.

The movement therefore reversed that observed the previous week, during which the dirham had strengthened against the euro. By way of indication, a 0.5 % change represents approximately 50 dirhams on the equivalent of 1,000 euros at the reference exchange rate. However, the amount actually received in an exchange or transfer depends on the rate and fees applied by the institution.

Reserves remain close to 500 billion

Bank Al-Maghrib also indicates that official reserve assets stood at 499.6 billion dirhams on August 13. They fell slightly by 0.2 % in one week, but remained up 22.4 % year on year.
