US Diplomat Visits Morocco’s Western Sahara, Reaffirms Support for Autonomy Plan

At the end of his visit to Algeria, where he reiterated his country’s support for the Moroccan autonomy plan, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near East and North Africa, David Schenker, traveled to Morocco this Saturday, including to the capital of the Moroccan Sahara, Laâyoune.
Upon landing at Hassan 1st Airport in Laâyoune, the US Under Secretary of State was received by the Governor of the Province of Laâyoune, Abdeslem Bekrate.
After the protocol ceremony, he began a tour of the city, visiting the diplomatic district that houses the consulates of several countries and the headquarters of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).
Just like in Algeria, he will comment on the recent news regarding the Moroccan Sahara. He had assured that the political dialogue between Morocco and the Polisario Front around the Moroccan autonomy plan remains firmly the solution to "definitively resolve this conflict."
