US Diplomat Hails Strong US-Morocco Ties During Laâyoune Visit

On a visit to Laâyoune this Saturday, January 9, the US Secretary of State for the Middle East and North Africa, David Schenker, hailed the strong relations between the United States and Morocco. They are 200 years old.
In his speech to launch a sports education center financed by his country, the US Deputy Secretary of State noted that the US recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara represents "a key moment in US-Morocco relations. These relations have never been stronger."
For the senior US official, the first US diplomatic mission and the oldest was opened 200 years ago in Tangier. He recalled the US commitment to Moroccan youth and the deep friendship between the two countries. According to him, the partnership with the NGO "TIBU Maroc" is only a small part of it.
He also mentioned his country’s support of $250 million to the Ministry of National Education as part of the education system reform. According to the US Deputy Secretary of State, the kingdom is the only African country to have a free trade agreement with the United States. "Last week, we celebrated 15 years since our agreement officially came into force," added Donald Trump’s envoy. To date, more than 150 American companies are operating in Morocco, contributing to job creation for the Moroccan economy.
