Desperate for Success: Moroccan Footballer Swims to Spain in Daring Career Gamble

In search of a better life in Spain, a Moroccan footballer who played as a defender for Moghreb de Tétouan has left his club, then Morocco, before swimming to Ceuta.
Like some of his friends, the Moroccan defender Mohamed Zeitouni intends to continue his football career in Spain. He then decided to leave Morocco for the Iberian peninsula. He first walked several kilometers along the Moroccan coast to avoid being spotted. Then, he swam for nearly half an hour in difficult conditions before reaching the coast, reports the newspaper El Faro de Ceuta.
For a week now, the 19-year-old has been residing at the Temporary Stay Center for Immigrants (CETI) in Ceuta. He has maintained permanent contact with his family. The trigger for this quest for a better life in Spain is his situation at Moghreb de Tétouan. The Moroccan defender has not been paid by his club.
