Amrabat Snubs Saudi Riches for Betis’ Andalusian Allure
While he received very good offers from Saudi Arabia, Moroccan international Sofyan Amrabat preferred to sign in Andalusia. He explains the reasons.
Sofyan Amrabat now plays for Real Betis. "I had interesting offers, particularly from the Saudi league and Seville, but when Betis approached me, the decision was immediate," said the Moroccan international during his presentation at a press conference in the presence of the club president, Ángel Haro, and the sports director, Manu Fajardo. He has signed for one season. However, he does not rule out the possibility of extending his contract: "You never know in football. If the adventure goes well, we’ll see what’s possible in the future."
Why Real Betis? His choice to join the Andalusian club’s squad was influenced by his brother Nordin, a former Betis player, and several teammates from the Moroccan national team. "Everyone was positive (about the idea of coming to Betis). My agent, my brother (Nordin), who played here a few years ago. For him, it was the best atmosphere. Then, of course, there’s Abde, Antony and the national team players. We have a lot of players who come from Spain and they were all very positive and told me that the city and the club are amazing and that I’m going to enjoy it a lot," explained the 29-year-old midfielder.
Sofyan arrived at Betis on loan from Fenerbahçe SK, just before the close of the summer transfer window.
