Desperate Son Robs Bank to Fund Father’s Cancer Treatment, Arrested in Tangier

His video had gone viral on Moroccan social networks this week and a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) was published to discuss his failed robbery of a bank branch in Tangier. Looking closer, the story could be much sadder than a simple robbery driven by greed.
In his thirties, the young man had robbed a bank before being arrested by the police. The security guard had closed all the exits, making it impossible for him to flee the bank while waiting for the arrival of the security forces. Ahmed, that’s his name, then lay down on the ground after the police entered. The young man seemed dazed.
The Alyaoum24 team went to his family’s home, not far from Melloussa, near Tangier, and although he does not excuse his son’s act, his father says he may have done it to buy him medicine and pay for his operation. His father, 61 years old today, has been sick with cancer since 2016. The young man has been taking care of the whole family from the beginning and did not hesitate to go with his father to Rabat for medical check-ups. The trips and especially the medicines are expensive, very expensive, sometimes up to 3,500 dirhams per box, which is almost impossible for the budget of this very modest family.
Today, an appeal has been circulated on social networks to urge the bank to withdraw its complaint and a call for donations has also been published to pay for the father, Mohamed’s, operation, which costs 30,000 dirhams. Will there be a favorable outcome to this case?
