Delacroix’s Moroccan Journey Unveiled: Rare Exhibition Opens in Rabat

The inauguration of the exhibition "Delacroix, souvenirs of a trip to Morocco" took place on Tuesday in Rabat at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMVI). The event, the very first in the world, was attended by several personalities and will be held until October 9, 2021.
This exhibition is the result of the trip made by Eugène Delacroix to Morocco in 1832. Thus, a selection of paintings, drawings, watercolors and also most of the objects, clothing, weapons and musical instruments that he brought back from his trip are exhibited, reports the MAP. This exhibition therefore offers the opportunity to discover Delacroix, "a painter who brought colors and revolutionized the artistic scene of his time", indicated the president of the FNM, Mehdi Qotbi.
For her part, the director of the Eugène-Delacroix national museum and co-curator of the exhibition, Claire Bessède, was delighted with the "expert eye" cast on Delacroix’s works, revealing the impact of Morocco on the artistic journey of a painter who marked his era. The first artist to come to Morocco at the time, the painter for more than 30 years, "represented Morocco through his paintings that he made in his studio in Paris", based on the discoveries made in Morocco and on his memory.
In addition, this painter inspired several others including Odilon Redon, Henri Regnauld, Charles Camoin... Thus, he "has the merit of having changed the orientation of artists
