Stellantis Intensifies Recall of Citroën and DS Models Over Dangerous Takata Airbags

Stellantis Maroc is intensifying its recall campaign concerning Citroën C3 and DS3 vehicles produced between 2009 and 2019 and equipped with potentially dangerous Takata airbags.
These airbags, implicated in several accidents, present a risk of unintentional deployment with the projection of metal parts, due to the deterioration of certain chemical components under the effect of heat and humidity.
Although the campaign has already allowed 84% of the vehicles concerned to be processed, Stellantis strongly encourages owners who have not yet done so to check if their car is affected. To do this, they just need to go to the Citroën or DS Automobiles websites and enter the vehicle’s serial number, reports Franceinfo.
If the vehicle is affected, owners must contact the dealerships of the two brands as soon as possible. The intervention, which consists of replacing the defective airbag, is free of charge and takes less than two hours.
This recall comes as an investigation is still ongoing in Réunion following the death of a 39-year-old woman in September 2021, potentially linked to the explosion of a Takata airbag. Stellantis is facing criticism regarding its management of this case and its late consideration of the dangerousness of these airbags.
