Decathlon to Quintuple Production in Morocco, Aiming for 1 Billion Dirham in Orders

After drastically reducing it over 20 years, Decathlon, the French manufacturer and distributor of sportswear and equipment, has decided to multiply its production in Morocco by five.

"Among these global contractors who are now looking at Morocco with Chimène’s eyes or are returning there after turning their gaze away, is the French brand Decathlon, which has just made the decision to multiply by five the volume of products manufactured in our country," writes the Challenge magazine.

The French brand aims to reach the one billion dirham mark in orders in Morocco again, compared to 200 million currently, the publication specifies, recalling that over the past twenty years, the sports goods distributor has gradually abandoned Morocco for China, where it now has four in-house production plants, 500 suppliers and four logistics parks.

"But the new constraints of maritime transport and those of the environment of a more controlled carbon footprint (which long-distance transport does not favor) have made Morocco, and also Tunisia (where the company is also already well established), a relocation country at the gates of Europe, its main market," analyzes the weekly.

Morocco seems to be benefiting from the crisis in the Red Sea, caused by the attacks carried out by the Yemeni Houthi rebels against merchant ships heading towards the Suez Canal, which have resulted in delays in the delivery of goods and widespread cost overruns.
