Deadly Bootleg Alcohol Claims 7 Lives in Morocco, 2 Arrested

Seven people died in Meknes after consuming adulterated alcohol. The incriminated product would have been purchased in a local grocery store, according to a source close to the investigation cited by Map.
Two individuals, a man and a teenager, were arrested on Tuesday following the opening of the investigation, according to the same source, which also indicates that in addition to the seven victims, an eighth individual is currently hospitalized.
Following searches, about ten empty plastic bottles were seized, which would have contained the alcohol that caused the deaths. The 67-year-old man was taken into custody while the minor is currently under surveillance, as part of the investigation. Scientific analyzes are underway to confirm the link between the products consumed and the tragic deaths that occurred.
Last September, 9 people had died after consuming counterfeit alcohol in Ksar El Kébir. A man in his forties and his son had been arrested and nearly fifty liters of counterfeit alcohol had been seized by the investigators.
