DAZN Threatens to End French Football Deal Over Piracy Concerns

The British broadcaster DAZN threatens to break its contract with the Professional Football League (LFP) as early as next summer, notably due to piracy (IPTV) from Morocco.
DAZN could stop broadcasting LFP matches if it does not have guarantees that firm measures will be taken to fight piracy, particularly from Morocco. The broadcaster threatens to terminate any contract with the LFP, informs RMC Sport, noting however that these measures can only come into effect in 2026, i.e. in the middle of next season.
According to DAZN, the clubs do not respect the contract and do not make efforts to promote the championship, for example by offering showcases to the best players or exclusive interviews. The British broadcaster also threatens not to pay the full amount of its next due payment on April 30, in the amount of 70 million.
For its part, the League sees DAZN’s approach as a means of negotiation. It has promised the broadcaster to impose severe sanctions on clubs that do not fulfill their commitments in the future. A response that has not convinced DAZN’s management.
If the contract is terminated, the League hopes at least to recover the financial guarantees, as DAZN has the obligation to broadcast Ligue 1 until 2029, with a contract of 400 million euros per season. For the moment, the mediation initiated to reconcile the two parties has not yet yielded any results.
