Dakhla, Morocco Sees Tourism Rebound as COVID-19 Restrictions Ease

Dakhla, one of the tourist destinations in southern Morocco, was not spared the ravages of the health crisis. But very early on, this region has relaunched its tourism.
The Dakhla destination has shown resilience to the health crisis by maintaining its activities, said the Minister of Tourism, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, during a meeting held on Saturday with professionals in the tourism and crafts sectors in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, reports Map. Inviting all local stakeholders, local authorities, elected officials and professionals to work together to overcome the obstacles facing the tourism, crafts, air transport and social economy sectors in this difficult period, the minister recalled the measures taken by Morocco to preserve the economic fabric to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic, including the monthly compensation of 2,000 DH, the generalization of medical coverage services and family allowances and others.
As for the Wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Governor of the Oued Eddahab province, Lamine Benomar, he called for the enhancement of the natural potential and the improvement of the tourist offer and the need to set up new tourist areas and facilities, in order to support the development of the region. In the same vein, the president of the regional council, El Khattat Yanja, recalled that the regional council is working for the tourism development of the region by signing a number of conventions as part of the program contract related to the financing and implementation of integrated programs in the region.
During the meeting, a partnership agreement to boost tourism investment in the region was signed between the Ministry of Tourism, the Wilaya, the SMIT and the Regional Investment Center. In addition, the program related to strengthening the capacities of social and solidarity economy project holders in the region was launched, not to mention that the CEO of the Moroccan Tourist Engineering Company, Imad Barrakad, presented the integrated development program for rural and nature tourism in the region. The minister also visited the solidarity sales space on the same occasion.
