Dakhla Emerges as Morocco's Rising Tourism Hub and Diplomatic Showcase

Tourism is thriving in the city of Dakhla. Currently, this city has become the "embodiment of the success of the new development model of the southern provinces of Morocco", and "the showcase of the soft power of Moroccan diplomacy".

"Driven by a development program mobilizing tens of billions of dirhams, the city of Dakhla has experienced a real boom in recent years. And the diplomatic dynamic favoring the opening of foreign representations on site promises to make it a true continental hub," said the magazine Jeune Afrique, which talks about this city in the Moroccan Sahara in a report published in "Avant-première".

Dozens of consulates from African countries and the office of the American Society for International Development Financing (DFC), and that of CFCIM installed in this city are attracting more investors, reports Infomediaire. Once known for water sports enthusiasts, the city has been hosting several international events for about fifteen years and should host the "AI for Climate Forum" in December, in which experts from several countries will participate to discuss the use of artificial intelligence in environmental protection and the fight against climate change.

But before this December forum, the Crans Montana forum, which was to take place on March 18, 2020, but was canceled due to Covid-19, is scheduled for June, followed by a virtual conference on African women. Moreover, this international interest in the city would probably be the result of the large tourist influx observed even despite the crisis. In addition, with the many projects launched in this city in various sectors, "Dakhla is thus destined to become a regional and global hub at the service of co-development in different fields," the magazine stressed.
