Dakhla Seeks Investment from Moroccan Diaspora, Aims to Become Economic Hub

The Moroccan Consulate General in Strasbourg organized a webinar for the Moroccan diaspora based in the region. The aim is to present these potential investors with investment opportunities in Dakhla, a region which, due to its geographical position, is a real exchange platform between Morocco, Europe and sub-Saharan Africa.
Organized in collaboration with the Regional Investment Center (CRI) of Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab, this webinar is part of the many actions taken by the Moroccan authorities to give new momentum to the region, by making its capital, Dakhla, an economic hub connecting the other regions of Morocco to sub-Saharan Africa, the consular representation said in a statement.
This virtual meeting was attended by Mounir Houari, Director General of the CRI of Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab, who presented the Center, its levers, the main competitive advantages of the region and the investment opportunities it offers, reports the MAP.
During his presentation, he stated that Dakhla plays a pivotal role and a platform for exchanges between Morocco and Europe via the Atlantic Ocean, on the one hand, and between Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa via Mauritania, on the other. He highlighted the significant economic potential of the region, particularly in the sectors of maritime fishing, agriculture, tourism and energy, as well as development. The seawater desalination project and renewable energies were presented as major assets, the same source specifies.
Mounir Houari also presented to his interlocutors the major Dakhla Atlantic Port project, which should promote direct trade exchanges between Morocco and its African partners. "A 1,000 ha industrial and logistics zone will be annexed to this port, which will allow the creation of a free trade zone. This is anchored in the Moroccan strategy to strengthen partnerships and South-South trade," he said.
He also announced to the participants that two 34 ha logistics platforms will be set up at the El Guergarat border post and in Bir Guendouz, which will allow the region "to position itself as a gateway to Africa and a major exchange hub".
Following the presentation by the Director of the Dakhla CRI, exchanges took place on land, existing investment niches, organic agriculture, medical tourism and the relay role accepted by the Moroccan skills of Strasbourg to promote the Moroccan destination to French economic operators in order to stimulate investments.
