Customs Raid Uncovers Counterfeit Gold Jewelry in Casablanca Market

In Casablanca, adulterated gold is invading the market. This is the alarming finding made by the Customs services, during a raid on jewelry stores (the kissariats of Derb Soltane), in the Prefecture of Al Fida Mers Sultan, to challenge smuggling.

There would be large quantities of adulterated gold in a jewelry store in El Menjra, on the Al Fida boulevard, in the Prefecture of the Al Fida Mers Sultan districts, in Casablanca, reports the daily Assabah, quoted by Le360. Indeed, smuggling circuits would have flooded this jewelry store, still known as the "Gold Exchange", in Morocco, with counterfeit gold.

In its issue of Tuesday, July 16, 2019, the same daily indicated that the Customs services had landed, last Thursday, July 11, at 1 p.m., at the Kissariat of El Menjra. This was the beginning of the inspection. Based on the information received, they proceeded to verify the silver metals. They then carefully examined the ingots to be convinced of their origin, composition and authenticity.

Alerted, some shopkeepers fled before even receiving the inspection visit from the Customs services. In front of the customs officers, the shopkeepers were asked to present the invoices for the acquisition of the various metals (gold, copper and silver) on sale.

The Customs harvest was bountiful: suspicious gold ingots were detected. Only the conclusions of the laboratory work will be able to determine their origin and the compliance of their components. For the moment, notes the same source, the Customs services are maintaining the old.
