Cultural Sector Still Reeling from COVID-19 Impact, Artists Face Ongoing Uncertainty

Among the sectors that have been seriously impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic is the cultural sector. Even though the high vaccination rate and the consequent decline in cases of contamination had led to the reopening of dedicated spaces, artists still live in uncertainty.

The cultural sector has been in the doldrums for two years. The restrictive measures taken in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus prevent the players in the sector from thriving. Since Covid has become part of everyday life, only a few film premieres, theater performances or concerts with a limited audience, as well as exhibition openings, have been organized, reports Aujourd’hui le Maroc.

Artists have witnessed more cancellations or postponements of their events than their actual holding, both in Morocco and abroad. With the return of the kingdom and some countries to the green zone, hope had invaded the cultural world, but the appearance of the Omicron variant has called everything into question again. The actor artists who have long suffered from the closure of performance halls hope that they will not face this situation again.

As for the singers, they do not have too much to worry about. Even if they cannot give concerts or participate in festivals as in the past, they are content to release singles, in order to remain present in the memory of music lovers, pending an easing of restrictive measures.

As for the painters, they manage to unveil their works but the pace of organizing exhibitions is no longer the same, since only the museums managed by the National Foundation of Museums continue to open and program new exhibitions, the newspaper points out.

As for the writers, they continue to publish even if the publishing houses have to face problems such as the high cost of paper. Added to this are the postponement or cancellation of book signing ceremonies or literary meetings.

Art and culture professionals remain committed to the various strategies implemented for the effective fight against the pandemic and hope for a better future for a sector that has been hit hard by the consequences of the crisis.
