COVID-19 Outbreak: Professional Cluster in Kenitra Drives Morocco’s Case Surge

Morocco recorded 101 new cases of contamination and 69 recoveries on Sunday, June 14, 2020. Rabat-Salé-Kenitra is the most affected region with 42 cases detected in a professional cluster in Kenitra.
As of June 14, the official report shows 8,793 cases of contamination, 7,765 recoveries, 212 deaths. Dr. Mouad Mrabet, coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations at the Ministry of Health, specified that these new cases were recorded in the regions of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra (42 cases in a professional cluster in Kenitra), Marrakech-Safi (21 cases, including 20 in Marrakech and one new case in Safi), Casablanca-Settat (13, including 10 in Casablanca), Fès-Meknès (12 cases related to contacts of family clusters), Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (9 cases, including 8 in Tanger and one in Larache), Béni Mella-Khénifra (2 cases, including one in Béni Mellal) and Guelmi-Oued Noun (2 cases related to contacts of family clusters).
Also, he said that among the 101 cases recorded, 92 were detected as part of the system for monitoring contact subjects, or 91% of the new infections. This monitoring currently concerns a total of 50,165 cases. In total, 5,611 contact subjects are still under medical supervision.
Dr. Mrabet also stressed that "the gradual lifting of containment does not mean a return to the social life we were used to before. June 2020 is completely different from June 2019 or 2018, as we are now facing a new unwanted element, which is Sars-CoV-2."
"It is therefore imperative to respect the barrier measures, in particular the wearing of protective masks, the rules of social distancing, hand washing with water, soap and antiseptic products, avoiding gatherings and crowded places as well as family visits, especially for vulnerable and elderly people," concluded the coordinator.
