COVID-19 Crisis Threatens 30% of Moroccan Pharmacies with Closure

With the health crisis related to the coronavirus, many pharmacies could close permanently in Morocco. 30% of them are facing huge losses. Bankruptcy is imminent.
In Morocco, the quantified consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic on pharmacies are serious. 25% to 30% of them should not be able to reopen. According to data from the National Order of Pharmacists, pharmacy sales have fallen by 70%. Out of the 12,000 active pharmacies, 3,000 to 3,500 currently in financial difficulty are threatened with bankruptcy, reports Assabah.
The Order of Pharmacists specifies that two pharmacies on average are closing their doors each week. Pharmacies whose owners have been unable to honor their bank maturities, including unpaid checks, are added to this list. This situation reveals a suffering pharmaceutical sector. Professionals point to the non-application of certain provisions of the Pharmacy Code that do not require any specific law and the reform of the sector’s representative bodies shelved.
