EU Court Rules: Israeli Settlement Products Must Be Clearly Labeled

Food products originating from the territories occupied by the Israelis must now be labeled. This is the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Communities (CJCE).
"Food products originating from the territories occupied by Israel must bear the indication of their territory of origin, accompanied, when these food products come from an Israeli settlement located on this territory, by the indication of this origin," the Court of Justice of the European Communities (CJCE) said in a press release.
According to the Luxembourg court, the purpose of this measure is to avoid consumers being misled about the fact that the State of Israel is present in the territories concerned as an occupying power and not as a sovereign entity.
According to the CJCE, this European regulation on the labeling of products from Israeli settlements dates back to 2011. The aim is to allow consumers to make informed choices, not only in terms of health, economy, environment and society, but also in terms of ethics and respect for international law, specifies the highest court of the European Union.
It is also a question of putting an end to the population policy pursued by the Israeli settlement colonies in violation of the rules of general international humanitarian law.
