EU Court Annuls Morocco Trade Deals, but Agreements Remain in Effect

The Court of Justice of the European Union has annulled two trade agreements between Morocco and the EU on Wednesday. This decision will have no impact on the kingdom’s economic exchanges, said lawyer Genevra Forwood.
The General Court of the European Union has handed down its first-instance judgment on the action for annulment of the Council of the European Union’s decisions regarding the agricultural and fisheries agreements with Morocco.
The court has annulled these decisions "while maintaining their effects for a certain period in order to preserve the external action of the European Union and the legal certainty of its international commitments," reads the press release from the court reporting on this decision.
According to Ms. Forwood, the annulment "is not final and will not change anything on the ground for economic operators in the agriculture and fisheries sectors."
And she added that "there is no legal impact on the" agricultural and fisheries agreements between Morocco and the EU, insisting that "there will be an appeal before the Court of Justice of the EU" against this judgment.
