Morocco is ranked among the most expensive countries in North Africa, according to a report by Numbeo, the world’s largest collaborative online database.
Several factors were taken into account by the online site in its report, including the costs of restaurants, transportation, and consumer products.
These factors determine the cost of living in certain major cities and capitals to compare them to the cost of living in New York, United States, the reference country. Morocco is ranked among the most expensive countries in North Africa and occupies the 104th place in the world, far ahead of Algeria (119th), Tunisia (120th) with a cost of living index of 34.32 out of 100.
In Morocco, an average family of four in Rabat needs 14,989 dirhams ($1,400) to cover the family’s needs, excluding rent, the same report states.
Furthermore, Rabat occupies the 337th position out of a list of 440 cities in the world, with a score of 36.53. The five most expensive cities in the world are all in Switzerland: Zurich (1st), Basel (2nd), Lausanne (3rd), Geneva (4th) and Bern (5th).
