Coronavirus Pandemic Drives Up Food and Hygiene Product Prices in Morocco

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a slight increase in the prices of certain food products in Morocco has been recorded.
According to the Minister of Industry, Trade, Green Economy and Digital, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, in addition to this slight increase recorded in the prices of certain food products, a significant increase in hygiene products is also announced.
According to Minister Elalamy, the industrial supply chains do not foresee major disruptions in the short term, as alternative routes were ensured by the actors concerned.
In this regard, to deal with this situation, the Ministry of Industry, Trade, Green Economy and Digital has taken a number of measures, including the establishment of a strategic monitoring committee that meets every 2 days to decide on the necessary measures.
These measures are supplemented by the daily monitoring and monitoring mechanisms put in place in order to define and propose, in partnership with the Federations, solutions to counter any impact of the Coronavirus on the supply chains.
In addition, an export license is now required for medical masks and disinfectant gels, the minister said. As for companies whose activity could be impacted by COVID-19, the ministry has planned other concrete measures. It is also proceeding to guarantee stocks of non-perishable basic necessities to meet the growing demand at the national level.
