Coronavirus Impact: Marrakech Hotels Face 2,000 Cancellations as Morocco’s Tourism Slumps

The coronavirus is starting to hit Moroccan tourism. In total, an average of 2,000 overnight stays per hotel are being canceled in the city of Marrakech this March.
Multiple cancellations of trade fairs and major events in the kingdom, fewer flight bookings, and a decline in Moroccans’ stays abroad... Tourism is experiencing a slowdown in the ochre city due to the coronavirus. As a result, this sector is recording colossal losses, reports La Vie éco.
"We have no visibility for the coming months. The hotel industry can withstand for a month; but the problem lies in the lack of control upon arrival at the airports. For example, at Marrakech airport, there is no thermometer to measure passengers’ temperature. They are asked to fill out a form attesting to non-contamination," laments Abdellatif Kabbaj, president of the National Confederation of Tourism (CNT), and CEO of the Kenzi Hotels Group.
The time has now come for the mobilization of tourism transport professionals. The Chamber of Commerce has also served as a framework for a meeting at which solutions to their problems will be found.
