Controversy Erupts as Hijab-Wearing Student Barred from Malaga Classroom

A 14-year-old teenager was denied access to the classroom in Malaga for wearing the hijab. Her family denounces the "Islamophobic" act and demands her reintegration as soon as possible.
The young girl, of Egyptian origin, was not allowed to attend classes because she was wearing the veil. In a video posted on social media, her mother denounces the decision of the officials of the educational center, according to Malaga Hoy.

The Moroccan Association for the Integration of Immigrants, which considers the decision "discriminatory" and "Islamophobic", has already seized the Government Delegation of Education and hopes that it will react "as soon as possible" to allow the girl to resume classes. In its complaint, the association denounces the "isolation" suffered by the minor by the denominational school Saint John of God, better known as La Goleta. "They are forcing her to choose between her religious identity and her right to education," laments the NGO.

"Religion and studies are two important things for me. I can’t choose one and leave the other," explains the minor, who complains of having "missed several classes and exams". Despite the negotiations of the association with the officials of the establishment, the latter remained firm on their decision.
On January 10 last, the management of the center had authorized, "on a provisional basis", the 14-year-old girl to wear "a cap and a scarf". On February 21, the young girl decided to wear the hijab instead of the cap and scarf "because she was hot and uncomfortable". The same day, according to the association, "she was sent away from the school library and was isolated all day".
