Controversial TF1 Report on Morocco's Cosmetic Surgery Boom Pulled After Backlash

TF1 cites the reasons that led it to withdraw the report on cosmetic surgery in Morocco, entitled "Morocco, the madness of the scalpel" broadcast during the Sept à huit program on Sunday, February 7. This report shocked Internet users because of the new term invented by a famous cosmetic surgeon practicing in Casablanca.

Many patients very proud of their transformed bodies to match certain beauty standards were highlighted in this report titled "Morocco, the madness of the scalpel." Similarly, the report presents Morocco as a "conservative" country with "Western values," where some women belonging to a new class of wealthy young people tend to break taboos. But what shocked the web were the remarks of a famous cosmetic surgeon practicing in Casablanca. He offers his clients to give them a "Ferrari design silhouette."

TF1 decided to withdraw the report a few days after its broadcast. "We did indeed prefer to remove this subject from the Replay at the request of one of the patients we filmed. She fully agreed to participate in our report but since the broadcast of this Sunday, February 7, she has been the subject of mockery and unpleasant comments, from her entourage but also from Internet users on social networks. In order to preserve her tranquility, we have decided not to put this subject in replay. This decision is in no way related to the use of the Ferrari design expression," explains Caroline Stevens, TF1 communication-information manager, to Challenge.ma.

"The purpose of this Sept à huit report was to show a reality that has developed a lot in Moroccan society, and to give a voice to both doctors practicing this cosmetic surgery and women who use it," she justifies.
