Controversial Salafist Cleric Claims Morocco Earthquake Was Divine Punishment

The Salafist Hassan el Kettani is making headlines again. He has just described the inhabitants of Al Hoceima as damned because of the earthquake that recently struck the region.
For this Salafist, the earthquake is a divine punishment. He described the inhabitants of Al Hoceima as misguided, sinners or even imbeciles, because an earthquake struck the region, reports the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. "Earthquakes are not natural phenomena, but a warning from God," he wrote on his Facebook page.

Hassan el Kettani must be prosecuted for these remarks towards the inhabitants of a region of the kingdom known for their piety, estimates the daily, recalling that the Salafist is not at his first attempt and that the Salafists in general continue to maintain the amalgamation between Islam and religious extremism.
