Experts Reassure: Recent Al Hoceima Earthquakes ’Normal Natural Phenomenon’

The earthquakes recorded this week in the province of Al Hoceima are "a normal natural phenomenon", according to the National Institute of Geophysics (ING).
In a statement to the MAP, expert Nacer Jabour indicated that these seismic shocks constitute a response of the deformed crust of the region, affecting a particular area, with a migration of seismic activity from one area to another and a weakly felt seismicity.
According to him, the ING is equipped with seismic sensors that allow the observation of small earthquakes which are hundreds, while those felt this week do not exceed a dozen.
These "small shocks" come to fill the voids that were not previously activated in the region, which is a "normal phenomenon", he explained, adding that statistical studies will be carried out to know if there is a decrease in the general average, a stagnation of earthquakes or a constant seismicity rate.
