Continental AG Subsidiary ContiTech to Close Moroccan Operations

As an integral part of the Hanover-based Continental AG company, the German group ContiTech, a specialist in automotive air conditioning (HVAC) systems, has decided to liquidate its subsidiary created in 2014 in Morocco.
In a short time, only two entities of the Continental AG group will remain in Morocco: Continental Tyre North Africa, the commercial arm of its group for the management of tire distributors and importers of the Continental brand, and Contitech Fluid Automotive Maroc, an industrial subsidiary based in Tanger Med which has been developing and manufacturing automotive air conditioning (HVAC) systems in Tanger Automotive City since 2021. Its division has decided to liquidate its Contitech subsidiary created in 2014, without however specifying the cost of this premature liquidation, particularly on the social front, reports Challenge.ma. This decision would be motivated by a lack of profitability.
For the record, the creation of the Contitech subsidiary was only possible after Continental AG had won a mega-contract with OCP for the manufacture at the Jorf Lasfar site of conveyor belts used in the Slurry pipeline of the world leader in phosphates (with a capacity of 180 km per year in widths of nearly 1.6 m). Contitech Maroc had started the activity in 2015 with more than fifty employees. Its capital of more than 100 million dirhams had increased to 236 million dirhams before its early dissolution.
