EU Considers Support for Morocco’s Mohammed VI Investment Fund Amid Economic Recovery

The Minister of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform, Mohamed Benchaâboun, met on Tuesday with the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi. A meeting during which the national finance minister requested the participation of the European Union (EU) in the Mohammed VI Fund for Investment.
The support sought by the Minister of Finance could constitute a relay for the promotion of the presence of European investors in Morocco and for the strengthening of the diversification of supply sources, according to a press release from the ministry. During this interview, Mohamed Benchaâboun insisted on the plan to relaunch the Moroccan economy after the Covid-19 pandemic and the conditions for its implementation, reports the MAP.
For his part, Oliver Varhelyi, the Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, noted that the implementation of the "Development Plan for the South" is an opportunity to further enhance the exemplary relations between Morocco and the European Union. He stressed that the EU intends to continue to support Morocco, and that the "Development Plan for the South" is an opportunity to further strengthen the partnership between the two partners.
The discussions also focused on the positive assessment of the Morocco-EU cooperation in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Before parting, the two men welcomed the good health of the relations between the two parties, especially the exemplary quality of this cooperation which has contributed to the implementation of several major reforms in Morocco, the same source specifies.
