EU Considers Stricter Import Rules for Moroccan Citrus Amid Valencia’s Push

The president of the Valencia region, Carlos Mazón, has asked the European Union for cold treatment of citrus fruits from third countries including Morocco.
"For the first time, a European Commissioner for Agriculture is willing to transfer the cold treatment requirement to all citrus fruits of any origin and not just oranges from South Africa," Carlos Mazón told La Razón. The issue will be discussed within the Commission after this Tuesday’s meeting in order "to advance a file that is so important for our farmers," he added.
The President of the Generalitat held a videoconference meeting on this subject with the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski. Thanks to this meeting, "we can start to accelerate a fundamental demand for farmers, especially for our citrus fruits, by advancing in reciprocity, justice and equality and with the same rules for everyone".
