Confidential Government Documents Found in Moroccan City’s Trash, Sparking Investigation

An investigation has been initiated by the Governor of the province of Safi, in order to find the persons who have thrown confidential administrative documents into a garbage bin.
These official papers were to be destroyed before being thrown in the trash. The non-compliance with this rule, which is in principle punishable by a prison sentence of 2 to 6 years, accompanied by a fine, has caused an emergency meeting of the Governor with various law enforcement officers.
According to the daily Al Akhbar, a large quantity of confidential documents have been found in a garbage bin in the city of Safi. Electoral cards, reports on the 2011 referendum, as well as copies of the official gazette and a private database on citizens have been found intact.
A similar incident occurred at the beginning of the year, when documents with the letterhead of the Ministry of Energy were being used by a nugget merchant in Salé.
