Complaints Against Moroccan Lawyers Drop in 2019, Justice System Reports

The justice system recorded fewer complaints against lawyers in 2019, compared to 2018. In total, 735 complaints against 968 were recorded by the public prosecutor’s office in Casablanca.
The report of the presidency of the public prosecutor’s office indicates that only 7% of the files recorded in 2018 were the subject of judicial proceedings, while 88% were dismissed by the bar associations. 564 complaints transmitted to the public prosecutor’s office were processed, i.e. 77%. The Bar Association explicitly deals with the files submitted to it by the public prosecutor’s office, according to judicial sources. The public prosecutor’s office did not receive any response within the legal time limit of three months for 35 complaints.
In addition, the appeal of the public prosecutor’s office in 59.88% of the cases dismissed implicitly was accepted by the court of appeal, against 34.45% of the explicit dismissal decisions. In other words, the cases dismissed implicitly far exceed those that are the subject of an explicit dismissal.
